face roll submissionwant to see your avatar on the face roll?
just send an image to jonvon@gmail.com.
be sure to include the url to your blog and your name (or the name you
want to be known by).
the image you send can be a picture of you, or it can be a cartoon or whatever. the more creative the better, but really any old image will do. it's entirely up to you to represent yourself visually in any way you like. the only thing i ask is that you take a moment to reflect whether the image really represents you, who you are. if it passes your own internal litmus test then it is good enough for me.
you can actually send multiple images if you want to. the more the merrier, i say. there isn't any limit per se.
when your image makes it to the roll it will be 80 x 80 pixels. if you want to send it in that size that is great, but you don't have to. i'll be glad to format it for you as i'm pretty handy with photoshop.
the intent of the random face roll is to be as inclusive as possible, especially as regards the domino blogging crowd. i was always sort of bothered by the whole blog roll concept. blog rolls are cool, but they are also limited in a way. there is either too much information or not enough. my own blog roll tended to not really represent the blogs i actually read. i'd put a link on the roll and then after a while i'd stop visiting the blog, for whatever reason. or a blog i had bookmarked would not end up on my blogroll out of laziness.
when i saw the random face roll over at joi ito's blog i got very excited. i found that i wanted to click the images on his face roll even though i didn't know any of the people behind the blogs he was linking to. i hardly ever click the links on regular blog rolls. that text is just too boring most of the time.
so anyway i found the face roll compelling. and the fact that it is random means that i can have thousands of blogs on the roll and it doesn't matter, it never takes up too much space on the page.
thanks a lot to those who have already sent in an image. the more images i get up on the roll, the more successful this experiment will be.
this particular face roll application is coded entirely in Lotus Notes and served up by the Lotus Domino web server. cuz that is the kind of thing i do for a living and all.
at some point in the hopefully near future i am going to release the code for the face roll as open source. right now i'm still working out the bugs and refining the features based on audience feedback.
