Last April, we announced that we would be the first shipping company in the world to equip all of its standard containers with real-time data transmission technology. This will soon allow us to track our containers around the world and collect data about them – to increase transparency for us and our customers.
Once the devices are permanently installed on our containers, they will be able to transmit data in real time and thus make supply chains more transparent and efficient. For example, they will provide GPS-based location data, measure temperatures and monitor sudden container vibrations. In the coming weeks, we will start equipping our container fleet with devices from the well-known TradeTech Nexxiot AG and, from the end of the year, also with devices from ORBCOMM, one of the leading suppliers worlds of Internet of Things (IoT).
Mass installation of tracking devices in our depots around the world will begin in late August 2022. Our Hapag-Lloyd LIVE product will be available to standard container customers in early 2023. Then, by the end of 2023, we will be able to track the entire of our fleet of dry containers and thus continue to advance the digitization of container transport.
The new technology will provide us with the benefits of being able to create visibility, detect delays earlier, automatically notify affected customers and initiate appropriate countermeasures.
